A long stretch of white sand and pebbles, with incredibly clear water that shifts from turquoise to deep blue.<\/p><p>In front of you are the four islands of Ksamil, so close that you could almost swim there.<\/p><p><strong>The downside?<\/strong> During peak season, this beach feels like a sardine can. The beach bars take up a lot of space with their sunbeds lined up perfectly. Finding a free patch of sand between 11 AM and 4 PM is almost a miracle.<\/p><p><strong>How to still enjoy it:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Come before 9 AM or after 5 PM<\/li><li>Rent a sunbed (10-15\u20ac\/day) if you want some comfort<\/li><li>Swim to the islands for a quieter experience (15 minutes of swimming)<\/li><\/ul><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>The four islands of Ksamil<\/p><p>These <strong>small islands are accessible by swimming<\/strong> from the main beach. The water is shallow for a good part of the way, making the crossing doable even for average swimmers.<\/p><p>On the islands, you'll find some shady spots, rocks to settle on, and even clearer water than on the beach.<\/p><p><strong>But beware:<\/strong> the islands are no longer deserted. In summer, they quickly fill up with bathers, motorboats, and vendors. The \u201cRobinson Crusoe\u201d vibe? Forget it.<\/p><p>If you go <strong>early in the morning or in September<\/strong>, it\u2019s better. But don\u2019t expect exclusivity.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>Mirror Beach (Pasqyra Beach)<\/p><p>A bit south of Ksamil, Mirror Beach is often mentioned as a <strong>quieter alternative<\/strong>. The name comes from the mirror effect created by the crystal-clear water that perfectly reflects the sky.<\/p><p>It\u2019s true that the place is beautiful. But <strong>\u201cquieter\u201d is relative<\/strong>: in July and August, you\u2019ll also find crowds, sunbeds, and bars.<\/p><p><strong>The advantage<\/strong>: the vibe is a bit less frantic than in central Ksamil. If you\u2019re looking for a balance between beauty and relative tranquility, it\u2019s a good option.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>Manastir Beach (Monastery)<\/p><p>Further south, near the ruins of the monastery, this beach is <strong>rockier and less developed<\/strong>. So it\u2019s less crowded.<\/p><p>You\u2019ll find it quieter here, but access can be tricky (rocky path) and there\u2019s little natural shade. Bring your own umbrella and water.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><strong>Our overall opinion on the beaches:<\/strong><\/p><p>The beaches of Ksamil are objectively <strong>gorgeous<\/strong>. The water is exceptionally clear, the temperature is pleasant, and the seabed is lovely for snorkeling.<\/p><p>But if you come in the height of summer without managing your expectations, you might end up disappointed. It\u2019s no longer a hidden gem. The village itself doesn\u2019t have much cultural or architectural interest.<\/p><p>You won\u2019t find a charming old town, a historic castle, or a fascinating museum. Ksamil is <strong>primarily a seaside resort<\/strong>.<\/p><p>If your goal is to relax for a few days in the sun with a book, a cold beer, and regular swims: perfect. Ksamil fulfills that role.<\/p><p>If you\u2019re looking for Albanian authenticity: keep moving. Or combine Ksamil with other more authentic spots in the south.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>Snorkeling Around the Islands<\/p><p>The clear waters of Ksamil are great for snorkeling. Around the islands and near the rocks, you\u2019ll see <strong>small fish, sea urchins, and a few starfish<\/strong>.<\/p><p>It\u2019s not the Great Barrier Reef, but it\u2019s enjoyable. Bring your mask and snorkel, or rent one on-site.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>Boat Excursions<\/p><p>Several providers offer <strong>boat tours<\/strong>: visiting sea caves, island hopping, or trips to Corfu (Greece).<\/p><p>Prices range <strong>from \u20ac15 to \u20ac40<\/strong> depending on the duration and type of boat. It\u2019s a nice way to see the coast from a different angle, especially if you\u2019re not in the mood to swim.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>Rent a Paddleboard or Kayak<\/p><p>To explore the coast at your own pace, you can <strong>rent a paddleboard (SUP) or a kayak<\/strong>. <strong>UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site<\/strong> is just a 15-minute drive from Ksamil. It's one of the most impressive historical sites in Albania, and honestly, it's worth the trip all on its own.<\/p><p>What is Butrint?<\/p><p>Butrint is an <strong>ancient city<\/strong> founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC, later developed by the Romans, Byzantines, and Venetians.<\/p><p>Here, you'll see:<\/p><ul><li>A well-preserved <strong>Greek amphitheater<\/strong><\/li><li>Roman <strong>thermae<\/strong> with mosaics<\/li><li>A <strong>Byzantine basilica<\/strong> with a stunning baptistery<\/li><li>Venetian <strong>walls<\/strong><\/li><li>A small <strong>museum<\/strong> with statues and archaeological artifacts<\/li><\/ul><p>All in a <strong>beautiful setting<\/strong>: the site is surrounded by water, forests, and wetlands. You walk among the ruins in the shade of large trees, with birds singing and turtles basking in the sun.<\/p><p>It's peaceful, beautiful, and fascinating. Even if you're not an archaeology fan, the atmosphere of the place is worth it.<\/p><p>Practical Information<\/p><ul><li><strong>Entry<\/strong>: \u20ac10 for adults (700 lek\u00eb)<\/li><li><strong>Visit Duration<\/strong>: 2-3 hours<\/li><li><strong>Best Time<\/strong>: In the morning before 11 AM or late afternoon (cooler, less crowded)<\/li><li><strong>Parking<\/strong>: Free at the entrance<\/li><li><strong>Tip<\/strong>: Take the audio guide (included in the price) to better understand the site<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Our Opinion:<\/strong><\/p><p>If you're in the area, Butrint is <strong>a must-see<\/strong>. It's definitely more interesting than Ksamil village. It\u2019s a <strong>practical stop<\/strong> between the Albanian Riviera (Dh\u00ebrmi, Gjipe) and the inland areas (Gjirokast\u00ebr, Blue Eye).<\/p><p>We mainly go there for:<\/p><ol><li>Butrint (the real highlight of the area)<\/li><li>A quick swim in the clear waters<\/li><li>A seaside lunch<\/li><\/ol><p>But we don\u2019t linger. We sleep away from the chaos and prioritize other, more authentic spots elsewhere in the country.<\/p><p><strong>The best approach, in our opinion:<\/strong><\/p><p>Incorporate Ksamil into a larger road trip, but don\u2019t dedicate more than half a day to it.
